With crime on the rise in many once-safe communities, it is becoming necessary to include an extra measure of security to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. Walking in unfamiliar neighborhoods or even just across the street or parking lot at night to get to your car can be an open invitation for an attacker to assault you, whether you?re a man, woman or child. There are many self-defense products out on the market, but one of the most effective weapons against an actual assault is Pepper Spray. Wilderness hikers and campers use it to protect themselves against wild animal attacks, including bears. Joggers, cyclists and delivery people use it to ward off unfriendly dogs.

The ?heat? or ?hotness? of chili peppers and consequently pepper sprays is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU) or the Scoville scale, named after the American chemist Wilbur Scoville The presence of the chemical capsaicin is responsible for this pleasant or unpleasant degree of heat, depending on if you are talking to a hot wings connoisseur or an assailant with pepper spray dripping from his face
Benefits of Defending Yourself with a Pepper Spray
Pepper spray is an inflammatory agent which is used to inflame the eyes and cause breathing difficulties, which in turn can cause a person who is attacking you to be put into a position where they are unable to cause any damage to you or your property. When a person is sprayed their eyes will literally clamp shut meaning they cannot see at all. If the person is standing, they will immediately be brought to their knees in a coughing fit and will be left with the ability to breath only small amounts of air, enough so that it is uncomfortable, but not restricted so much that it is life threatening.

Angie M. Tarighi, CEO & Founder of Women's Self-Defense Institute and EasySafety4U.com (http://www.easysafety4u.com)states, "This is a great opportunity to reach out to the women of our community during April's Sexual Assault Awareness Month and provide them with the information, tools and resources needed to lower their risk of becoming a crime statistic."
The importance of these types of classes is underlined by the statistics that indicate that one-in-three women, one-in-four girls, one-in-six boys and one-in-eleven men will be victims of sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. And the most disturbing fact is that 70% of rapes are never reported to the police.
Sexual harassment and sexual violence thrive on silence. Stopping it can be as simple as speaking up, even if it's just to say "that's inappropriate." Choosing to do something is choosing to make a difference.
Join us on April 16th from 7-10pm at Hoboken Medical Center's Assumption Hall for our workshop on Women's Safety Options - Deciding to End Sexual Violence. Register (http://www.self-defense-mind-body-spirit.com/contact-samm.html) today to save your spot to make a difference.
